A joke of an app

For a tech company this is the most out of date complicated app I have ever seen. We can never get it to work right and it is so overly complicated. This isn’t 2001, we can make apps that work well but this company clearly doesn’t have the resources to do it

Can’t connect to system after the latest app update

I’ve used the app without material issue for years. After the latest update, the app is unable to connect to my system. The progress bar loads and the process freezes at 100%. My wife has the old version of the app and connects without issue.

Still a piece of crap

I have had a Control4 system since 2015 and it has always been buggy, but usually works except when it doesn’t. The app, however, regularly fails, usually by being unable to find the system and controlling it. Recently did a reinstall for the app and can’t connect with either phone in the house. One star is one too many.

Abysmal accessibility

It isn’t possible to use this app with VoiceOver, which means I can’t use this app, and there is no alternative to control the lights. It is extremely easy to label a button or use a standard iOS slider control, but they didn’t bother to do it correctly and instead made a garbage app.

Works great but

As of this latest version update 2.10.23, this app is no longer compatible with iOS 12.5. Otherwise everything works great. I was an installer and using this on my home system. Additional Info: there was a revision up to the the .24 so that when I attempted to update the app in the iOS 12.5 I would get a message that there was an older app that was compatible with the 12.5 version. After I attempted to download this the “Download an older version of this app?” just kept popping up with no download.

Does not work with iOS 12.5.7

For those of us using older iPads as controllers, this app does not work with iOS 12.5.7 which was released a few days ago.

App Stopped Working

In just the past month this app has gone from extremely reliable to totally unreliable. It fails to connect to my project consistently - both on my phone and my wife’s. There’s no explanation for why the change would have occurred as nothing in our house has been changed. The issue must be on the side of the app or Control4 servers. But whatever it is it has made the app totally unusable and completely unreliable. It needs to fixed ASAP.

When it works it is okay….it works 50% of the

The program is fine. But I have to close it more than half the time and reopen it…and then 20% of the time it won’t connect at all unless I shut down the system and restart. And I delete the app and re add it at least once every 6 weeks

App is not functioning

Doesn’t sync with home system. Please fix.

Bad Update

Like others commenting here, this update is terrible. Cannot see any scenes. App continues to reload several times. Fix it.

Where are light scenes???

I love my Control4 app, but when a Control4 update deletes all my light scenes - ugh! I use scenes ALL THE TIME!! Please fix!

Light scenes are gone!

All light scenes have been removed in the latest app update. Please restore my light scenes!

Light Scenes Disappeared

The latest update to the app (2.10.18) has removed all of my light scenes from the app. The scenes still work from the keypads but it’s not as convenient. Please fix this, Control4.

This update breaks access to all scenes

As of this latest update the Control4 app now loses access to all of the scenes in my controller. I can still access individual lights, but no scenes are listed for any rooms. This is happening on all my iOS devices. Please fix!

Total scam

Customer service is terrible. Talk to 3-4 people just to find the right person for the issue. They say they can help or have solutions but they are only recommendations. I had a customer service rep call me and he just wanted to argue. They blame subs for cables not working properly. They want me to purchase an Apple TV component. They want me to purchase a wireless sub woofer component. They want me to put tape over the IR sensor. After spending all this money, I shouldn’t need tape or anything additional. Probably better off doin this yourself and NOT going through control 4 Pandora plays a couple of songs then stops. After looking at all these poor reviews, I’m shocked they’re still in business and there hasn’t been a class action lawsuit against control 4. They do not take any kind of responsibility or accountability.

The Worst Audio / Video Product Ever Sold

We have had a Control4 system for almost 10 years and have had nothing but problems since the beginning. The equipment constantly breaks and just stops working then you have to pay corrupt dealers to fix things all the time. We have a mister system in Arizona and the Control4 switch is on our roof. The switch failed and I had to pay $150 for a new one that didn’t work and had to be replaced. Then I had to pay an electrician to install a relay because the new switch is crap and cannot handle the load. Then the second switch would not connect to the zigby network. Then I paid for a zigby network extender and I still cannot get anything working. Control 4 has totally abandoned me and my only avenue left is to probably sue them. Do yourself a huge favor and choose another company.

White on white input? Really?

When creating Pandora station the input box is white on white. Such a simple thing to fix that’s been broken for a long time.

Always has problems, I wish we didn’t install it!

ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE GARBAGE

I installed a Control4 system in my home back in 2012 and have had nothing but problems, glitches, equipment failures, software bugs, and the worst thing is the technical support. Trust me, if you purchase a system, MUST get the installer to include a lifetime warranty to fix issues you will see arise. These installers charge up to $200/hr just to troubleshoot problems and you will either go broke or replace control4 with one of the competitor products. Just look at the reviews on this app to see how many people regret purchasing it. We absolutely hate this system and would rip it out tomorrow if I could guarantee it would not screw something up worse than what I already have. TOTAL GARBAGE!! The system also constantly says you need a 4sight subscription to use the iPhone app. This is a total waste of money and do not waste yours on it.

No longer works!

I’ve had Control 4 in my home for 6 years. Have used this app on both my iPad and iPhone with no problem. Suddenly, it no longer will log on. Says I need a “4sight subscription” so I can connect remotely. I’m on the same WiFi as Control 4. Contacted my installer and they had no answer for me. iOS is up to date, unless there is a glitch with 13.5.1. Unhappy! Help fix this!

Be careful

Control4 has become riderless! too many issues, equipment is expensive and proprietary. end users are blocked from making minor changes! Don’t go down this hole!

Not happy now

Great APP

This works great for controlling multi-room, multi-device setups. I can listen whatever I want in one rom and my wife can choose what she likes. You can add more cable boxes, video game consoles, or other devices to add to the variety And, more often than not, we can be in the same part of the house sharing the system. I can watch our security cameras and she has her Spotify going. All in all, this is a great system if you have the right company install it.

Wakeup function broken again.

Frustrating when it’s so hard to have things fixed. It takes a dealer to work around these errors. You can’t do it yourself so you have to live with it until the app is fixed or pay a dealer to undo and then pay them again to redo the function.

Latest update to app rendered it useless

Have been using Control4 app on my iPhone for years. After latest app update, I can no longer use it. When I attempt to turn on my 4 zone matrix amp using the app, it comes on, but with the volume muted. I can adjust volume level, but cannot deselect speaker mute, thereby rendering the amp useless. When I unplug the amp and reset it, the app will work with the amp for about a day. The next day, it turns on - again - in a muted state until I once again unplug and reset the amp. My audio installer replaced the amp to no avail. The problem still exists.

Frustrating...

We use Control4 for our music and pandora stops after 1 or 2 songs. I’ve tried to figure out but it’s mainly when I have my Control4 app. Works fine when I listen on my phone directly from Pandora.

App Not Working!!!

Is anyone else experiencing problem with the app since yesterday 01/04/2020???? We can’t make it connect at all!!! Any new updates??? Thanks

Sad how old, clunky and junky this is

Sad how old clunky and junky this is. We’ve had out system since 2011 and NOTHING has changed about this app’s interface! Still slow. Not to mention very out of style, date and way behind on functionality. Every time I get a new device it’s takes moving mountains to get it to work 🙈

Camera video stream

Actually I have same problem of before that comes again in iPhone app, which is I can see list of camera’s in one dashboard. But still I cannot open each camera stream separately. No picture come up and keep loading with no luck.

Bug with iOS 13.0

There was a bug with the app that appeared with iOS 13.0 switching between portrait and landscape mode. Problem seems resolved with the latest update.

Latest upgrade

Why does Control4 launch updates that crash a perfectly good working system. This is not the first time! Very disappointing. I know have to contact my installer to see if he is able to resolve an app upgrade. This one shuts down my entire system at one of my properties. Totally unacceptable! Have to use original remotes to operate systems. DO NOT UPGRADE WAIT FOR BUG FIXES TO THIS UPDATE...OCT. 4th 2019

Issue When iPhone Goes to Landscape

If my iPhone is placed in landscape mode (rotated), the Control4 screen gets cut off and can’t be restored to look normal until the app is shut down and re-opened. This started happen with iOS 13.1. Please fix this.

Logo disappeared

Everything worked great until latest update. “Listen” logo just disappeared with no word on why or a fix.

App not working on iPhone 11

Several icons are missing (the circle’s “listen” icon, the bottom right speaker control icon, and the player controls on the Sonos player for example)... if you tap the right spot, they work anyway but you have to know where that lower right button is to be able to add rooms or control volume... and impossible to guess where the play/skip buttons might be. This app needs a bug fix update ASAP!! Using iPhone 11 Pro Max... tried deleting and reinstalling app and it did not fix it.

It doesn’t work

The last update doesn’t work correctly, when I rotate my phone the user interface has a bug in the image.

Insulting

This remote is clunky and outdated. It’s insulting to have to pay for an app version of the remote, especially one that has not been designed or developed by high-end professionals. I wish I would’ve understood this before committing to Control4. None of our other systems require the user to pay for an app remote (Savant, Apple, Sonos, Lutron)

Over rated and antiquated

Major disappointment. Using for three years with multiple implementations: audio, lighting, home theater, garage opening, and other tv’s. Nowhere near the value related to the expense. Loading times, disconnects, and amazingly archaic user interface. If I were to do it again, I would just save the money. Installers gave it rave reviews because they get economic benefit. Then they sell based off the false benefit. UI is circa 2000’s.

Horrible

Can’t play music anymore! Can’t watch my camera if I am not home even though I pay monthly for that feature! Nothing works right since the last update

AMAZING!

I can control virtually anything in my house from my phone! This app is a life saver, and is my lazy me’s best friend! Thank you Control4!

Too slow to be useful and no configuration

Every time I open the App, it has to connect to system. On my home network it takes about 7 seconds. On external network about 20 to 90 seconds. If you want to open and close garage door, useless I open the app about 4 blocks before arriving home so I don’t have to sit in the car for a few minutes before door opens! If I get close enough and phone starts to pick up wifi, it will become useless. I have to turn off wifi, wait about a minute for connect and open the door. Very annoying. Also, virtually any configuration has to be done by dealer. This is highly annoying. Breaking functionality so you are forced to interact with installer over the phone for even small changes (like function on a light switch) is a terrible strategy.

Major fail fixed

I just updated the IOS app and now the wake up agent is missing from the climate icon in all rooms. Thanks for the latest patch. Wakeup works again!

Contro4 most functionality for Apple Watch

I used to love being able to control my music on my Control 4 system through my Apple Watch - not anymore 😞 Not sure why but that function no longer works and is no longer advertised as a service. Bring it back PLEASE!

Awful

Updated review after being contacted by the developer: Zero stars. My BluRay player died. Replaced it with a basic generic Sony DVD non-BluRay. After over 30 minutes they still couldn’t get the player to turn on or off using the universal remote. I can get it to work if I manually turn it on and off. Not acceptable. Our builder sold these to almost everyone in our 360 unit high end home subdivision. Almost everyone is getting rid of this crap. I’m gonna scrap it all in another month. I’ve had enough. Original review: Here’s the reason why this is the worst home automation universal remote ever... NOTHING, ABSOLUTELY NOTHING, can be changed, added, edited or removed by the user. EVERYTHING has to go through a dealer. EVERYTHING. And of course, that means every little change incurs yet another charge and/or service call. This is nothing more than a scam. I hate the entire system.

No more Control 4 for me.

1 star review: I gave up on Control 4, sold everything on eBay, and replaced it all with Amazon features that actually work and are much, much less expensive... like not even close. And when I do have a rare issue with an Amazon product, I can actually fix it myself! Control 4 makes you hire a contractor. I am so happy to be done with this lousy company. 2 star review: Control 4 is fine when it works. Various times throughout the day, I press a command to have no response. My dealer told me to wait 5 minutes and try again. Uh huh... my God I spent a lot of money on this for that type of service. It’s also cute that in order to use the watch feature, i need to restart my watch thereby eliminating any usefulness that the watch app would have. In that time, I can grab my phone. There is so much potential here. I wish Control 4 would get their “stuff” together. Until then please stay away. Try literally anything else. I’ve spent 1000s on this and is one of my life regrets. 4 star review: Update: Seemingly the day after I wrote my original review my Control 4 system has not been offline once. Like I said, it’s fine when it works and I’m happy it has been working flawlessly for over a month. I also discovered I can press and hold on the watch app and it will reconnect to the system so I no longer need to restart my watch to make that feature work. Still ridiculous that I have to do that though.

Solid release

Solid app, only crashes on some camera loads. Generally very solid. Works well remotely and away from house too.

Great system (get the right install company)

I’ve been installing control4 for the past 8 years. I’ve been having in my house for 7 years and very little to no problems. This is a custom system not a diy. The bigger the company the lower the custom service FYI.

Awesome

Love the new layout. Very sleek and modern. Now as an installer and programmer for control4 I’m sure we will have lots of updates in the near future.

Great Control System

Disclaimer: I am a dealer/installer I have this system in my own home. For installation, be sure to use a reputable installer who can show you either a showroom, or a working site with custom functions that shows competency. The app itself is ok and does the job with an older interface. The system itself is versatile and great. For the best results, upgrade necessary equipment and update to the new OS3.0 for an up to date look and functionality.

Great automation system!

Loved Control4 and so does my whole family. Most bad ratings here are because of bad installations/programming. We had ours done by AV City in Houston TX and works great! Highly recommend.
